I have a Trek 8000 SLR 26" I would like to convert. Very lite bike. If I purchased the 750w Bafang Johnny has, can I assume I need to get the controller and battery separately?
I think I have found a cheap battery alternative from China. I would say it's more likely to be crap from China, but the motor is from there as well as most things so.... I'm not going for looks anyway lol. But I found a few 52v bare bones batteries at almost half the price of a standard ebike battery. I plan to test them and check them out before hooking them up. Anyone against that idea?
The Treks are decent machines with pretty good components. (I have an older TRX 300 converted with a Bafang BBS02). That being said, the Bafangs have a built-in internal controller. Batteries are various voltages and capacities so are separate.
Thank you for that info. Can any battery be used? Assuming it is the proper voltage and has the right connections.... Like a homemade bank or 3 12v in parallel for example
not a good idea to try using any battery. needs to be 48-52v to work with bafang motors. needs anderson connectors. needs LVC and proper BMS specifications. you need the proper battery for the job
As 1fitz said, any battery with 48-52 volts will work. I stick with xt60 connectors for their reliability. Yes, you can build your own battery and use it within these parameters
