Can the Bafang BBSHD be downgraded to 750 watts? I have a 120 mm bracket size, so I believe this is the motor I would have to get. I need to be able to make it a class 1 . Is it possible?
Oh man! I forgot the newest motor on the market that's 750 watts and has 120mm BB available>> CYC Photon 750 Watt Mid Drive Motor. I am unfamiliar with these motors, but Johnny N.O. (this website) sells them (currently) on his website. They've only been out a few months so long term reviews of their quality don't exist--the company's been around a while. If you ever need to repair them, you have to go through the company to get it done (unlike the Bafang with numerous videos on repairs) ----But they're another 120mm possibility.
Thanks again. I'll look at it, but I don't if I like the idea of a new product. I typically like to wait for companies to work out the kinks of something new.
Option 1. I know EM3ev (from China) sells BBSHD's that are tuned to 750 watts. You would have to wait a bit longer for delivery, but the company has a loyal fan base and are truely stellar in the ebike world. Also Luna Cycles from California sells "street legal" BBSHD's at 750 watts, but as of today July 22, 2023 they are out of stock. They come and go in terms of availability on the Luna website. Both of these companies are like the OGs of the e-bike DIY world and have the best reputations. I have a 750 watt BBSHD from Luna--no complaints! It's paired with an EM3ev battery...What I like about buying from these sources is you'll have some sort of receipt vs
Option 2. Which is to buy a programming cable and effect the "down-tuning" yourself via your laptop OR an Eggrider (Johnny sells these). The programming options could be less convincing to authorities, but, really I don't know, I've never been pulled over! Also as an aside I'm not tech savvy enough to give the best suggestions for motor programming if you go that route... Perhaps another from the JNO community could chime in?...
Thank you for the response pose. I'll check into it.
