I've always been a pretty handy mechanically. If it was mechanical and moves, I like to mod it. As I've gotten a bit older, I was looking for a way to stay active that wouldn't be too hard on my joints, so I looked into an e-bike. I was going to buy one, but they were either (in my opinion) overpriced or poorly made. Then I ran across the Johnny Nerd-Out channel on YouTube. Long story short, I thought I would share my build with the JNO forum.
I purchased my 1000w Bafang BBSHD Mid Drive kit (Order #16075) from Johnny Nerd-Out Bikes about a month ago. I've been 100% pleased with both the kit and the support. I started with a Marin Alpine 29er. I believe the bike is a 2016 model. The parts and upgrades are as follows:

I'll admit I was shaky as shit at first as I hadn't been on a bike in years. Now I find myself riding 15-20 miles on the local nature trails multiple times a week. I'm really happy with the final build. Using the EggRider I was able to tune the pedal assist ratios so that its almost un-noticable. Pedaling the bike feels very natural, with the assist kicking in only when I need it or want it.
Here are the pics. Excuse the dirty tires, just got back from a ride. 😀
And if anyone is interested, here are the EggRider settings for BASIC and Throttle that I am using and very happy with.
YMMV 😗
