Hi! I'm new to all this, and spending time educating myself about all the different options out there for mid drive conversions. It seems like the ToSeven motors would be a great lower cost torque sensor option, but possibly they are still a bit untested? I'm curious as to why they aren't sold on here, and if anyone has any experience with them?

from what i see on their site https://to7motor.com/product/dm02-mid-drive-motor/ i wouldnt recommend them since they DM01 is about as heavy as a bafang, and the DM02 is 8 lbs ish, 90Nm of max torque and up to 500w of power. so the CYC photon beats all of those hands down in terms of specs. torque to weight ratio etc.
Hi Bryant,
Well? The ToSeven mid-drive motors are brand new to the market. The ToSeven motors are better known overseas, especially in China where they are manufactured, but the mid-drives motors are new to ToSeven as they have experience from what I understand pretty much only in hub motors where the motor is in the center of the wheel as opposed to middrive motors at the crank shaft.
Johnny did recently say he is interested in marketing the ToSevens (in a recent video), however ToSeven middrives aren't available anywhere as of this date (Aug. 2023) except for a select few to test them out. Before long, though they should become available to dealers such as Johnny N.O. ToSeven is setting up a distributor market. They won't, as far as I know be available on mass markets like Ali-Baba and such. Johnny had said he wanted to market the photon motor, and came through on that promise if you need a track record...
The YouTube channel HighVoltageKits does a nice quite detailed break-down of these motors as that vlogger was sent both of the ToSeven motors to test out. What I gathered from his vids is that the smaller torque sensing motor was at 500 watts (too small for me) and the larger torque sensing motor was 1,000 watts (not street legal in most of the USA). It will be as I understand on the Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter protocol (UART)--good news for those who love to tinker with programming. There will be programming cables available. Even if you don't opt for the programming cables, these motors have a lot of potetntial programming options from the kits--more than Bafang out of the box, and certainly more than Tong-Sheng out of the box.
They will be affordable torque sensing motors, at least compared to Bosch and the Photon motors.
As far as the reliability? Again they are brand new. A select few have ever used them at this point. So, there's that. However the lead inventor reportedly was a developer of the Tong-Sheng mid motors, so at least extensive experience went into their development.
At this time a lot of new options in mid-motor kits! An exciting time!
