I am installing a middrive on my trek. The brake levers and shifter seem to all be one part. What do I need to do to install the new brake sensors . Larry
Sorry forgot to add I have cable brakes. I bought a separate shifter with cable on amazon so I'll see how that works out. Thanks for all the other suggestions. I wish Johny would address this in his conversion video or at least reference it and do another video on it as my other bike has similar style shifter brake cable setup.
Not sure due to a couple of descriptions you have left out, but I will do my best. If they are cable actuated brakes and you want to keep your "all in one" cable+shift, you could use an in-line brake sensor. Johnny sells them but he is currently sold out. California e-bike has them in stock. Same product, slightly different name, "Hidden wire brake sensor".
You would need just one brake sensor (as) the front dreailleur (if you have one) would have to be removed in the building process to fit the motor. Thus the supplied bafang brake would / could replace the previous "all-in-one" on your front derailleur set-up. Or buy two brake sensors and keep the stock shift+brake as is...but you would still have to remove the front drailleur for the build!.
Another option would be to buy a shifter compatible with your rear derailleur (that's not attached to a brake) and use the stock Bafang brake with the new seperate shifter.
All this is meaningless if you have hydraulic brakes. With hydraulic brakes you would use a Bafang hydraulic brake cut-off. Johnny currently has them. If you google youtube videos, you will likely find information on how to install either the in-line brakes or the hydraulic ones. Good Luck, and have fun with your build and riding!
