Is this all the parts I need?
Motor: Bafang BBS02 https://www.johnnynerdout.com/product... Gear shift sensor https://www.johnnynerdout.com/product...
I did hear you mention in the video that you got a color display and brake sensor for it. I might go with the black and white display if I can still control the lights.
Does it need a throttle?
Thanks for any help!
Thank you man for inspiring me to attempt this. Lotta fun.
Awesome to hear, I plan on making videos to address how to fix all those issues you mentioned. If you’re having them, MANY more are too. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Conversion Successful!
Notes:
This was my first conversion. I've taken bikes apart before but I would not say I know a lot about bikes. The derailer is still a mystery to me etc. Overall I would say it was a fairly easy process once I got the right tools.
Johnny Nerd Outs Video on Tools was very helpful

Needed this spanner to get the bottom bracket off for this bike
https://ebay.us/6t2P9d
Followed these instructions mostly. https://youtu.be/e-PinXPVU1A
The 30D version of the Benno Carry On has hydraulic brakes. So I needed the hydraulic brake adapter in the kit. I purchased the kit on this site and John was very helpful with my 1000 questions. Got the Carry On from Jenson USA not sure if they are still in stock.
Things I messed up because I am a novice. Just to be clear this is not a list of complaints I am extremely happy with how everything turned out. This is just me being an idiot. Trying to warn other idiots.
When adding the gear sensor I didn't cut the shift line cleanly and it unraveled. Use good wire cutters for this. I ended up using the shift cable from another bike I own and restringing the whole thing. Pain in the ass and I still haven't gotten the shifting perfect yet but it works again.
Thought I would put the battery in a triangle bag for stealth but triangle bags aren't really made for the battery's with cases so I abandoned that idea.
Bought the utility front rack for this bike but the hardware that came with it didn't fit the 30D. Narrowed down that it needs Button head M8 Hex 35mm bolts and a bunch of washers. Abandoned this and sent back because didn't want to re-zip tie all the cabling for the entire bike and re-run the hydraulic brakes to fit the front rack. Also the front rack makes it hard to have a headlight on the bike. If you get the front rack put it on first.
Get master link pliers not a chain breaker tool. I have a bunch of chain breakers but all my chains have master links. Chain breakers mess up your chain. I learned this the hard way. Also count the links on your chain before you order. The Carry On is a cargo bike and the chain length is not standard.
Because of the length of the bike the wiring is not long enough for the front and rear lights that bafang supplies or the speed sensor. Ended up getting a speed sensor extension from california ebike. The short one. For lights I am just going battery powered for the time being.
Hydraulic brake sensors. Haven't gotten these working yet. Seems like when I have one on the bike the engine won't turn on. This is more than likely user error. You may need both sensors on the bike for everything to work. Will continue to investigate.
Power of the motor. I may need to calibrate this in the future. When I start out in level one pedal assistance it is bringing me right up to 18 mph. Was expecting less assistance at the lower ranges.
I want to reiterate that I am extremely happy with this conversion. I had initially bought a juiced bike that I returned after seeing this video. Very happy I did it myself. Extremely satisfying and I saved a bunch of money.
Thanks again to Johnny for all the help.
These are the specs.
Crap. I think I have hydraulic brakes. Looks like I was confused. I'll shoot you an email.
If you have hydraulic brakes, you will need the Hydraulic magnetic sensors. The in-line sensor is for Mechanical brakes.
Sorry one other question. This bike has hydraulic brakes. I purchased the In-line brake cut off Sensor do I need a different adapter? Also do two come in a pack?
Probably a good idea. Benno Carry On.
I would wait and see if you have any alignment issues first. Which bike are you converting again?
Have you had any issues with chain alignment on this bike? Bassicly am wondering if I should purchase the lettkie 42 chain ring for it. I have a spare mega-rage I was considering slapping on it.
Yes!!🙌
Awesome! Just placed my order. Thanks for all your videos. I sent my juiced bike back and bought this instead. Much happier!
Hi Jeremy! Yes that should do it for a full setup. The kit comes with a throttle and you can control the lights with the b/w display too😀
This would be my first conversion. Any suggested youtube tutorials on the install?
Sorry for all the questions.
