hey friend, looking at the specs of your bike here, it seems like a good bike, thou treks are a bit harder to convert due to the BB. yours has a BB Standard: BB86/BB92, press-fit PF-92, see here https://99spokes.com/bikes/trek/2017/stache-5 . i have no experience with this BB, ideally you want a 68-73mm BSA threaded BB for the easiest install. but here at johhnys shop he sells an adapter for just this issue here https://www.johnnynerdout.com/product-page/lekkie-bb86-92-bafang-adapter make sure to double check your BB is 41mm like the instructions mention. you should be good to convert using this adapter.
1fitz, I have decided instead to convert my 2018 Kona Big Honzo with 3" 27.5 tires. Do you have any advice as to installing a Bafang BBSHD? I see one video of a guy who did it (exact bike) - but has no commentary or comments allowed. It is a hardtail mountain bike that seems a perfect candidate ... but nothing from Johnny with this fat tire model from Kona(??) Thank you for any response!
install is pretty straightforward, take your time, watch johnnys bafang install guide video as well. also this article gives a good review and comparison with some other competitors https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/biking/hardtail-mountain-bike/kona-big-honzo only thing that sucks is your BB is SRAM GXP PF92, so youll likely need the bafang BB92 adapter from johnnys store.
