I believe the mid-drive unit would be better for you. As one goes up a slope, the vehicle weight transfers to the rear and the traction on the front wheel lessens. In a snow and ice situation the front would tend to spin out, losing both traction and steering control. With a mid-drive the extra weight on the rear (drive) wheels is a positive, giving increased traction.
