I'm starting my build, going to order parts, I know I need the bbshd 120.
I'm considering batteries, I'd prefer something close to 52v 17.5ah, I've printed out the "whale shark" template from bafang usa direct to get a size comparison. so I think that this should be alright? https://www.johnnynerdout.com/product-page/52v-17-5ah-hailong-removable-lockable-battery
also concerned with getting up hills, this is going to be my around town and camp bike, we camp at Laguna Seca for race events and getting up that hill has killed my hub drive bikes in the past. I know I'm headed in the right direction, should I get the 40t or 36t Lekkie as well for this build? I'm a heavier rider and can use all the help I can get.
as for the rest of the build, gear shift sensor will be ordered, and I have to finalize a screen, and get the bafang install tool. Anything glaringly obvious that I'm missing?

+1 on the 36t chainring, that would make for a very fun gearing on a bike like this. i have also used the 40t chainring which is a great product if you find that you need to offset the chainline back in.
there are side release hailong cases that may make it easier to get the battery on and off, but this looks like there is just enough room as is if you want to buy the one from johnny. the only other thing i would say is go easy on the throttle if you are adding one at all. mid drives will outperform hub motors in every category but i find that people who get too used to using throttle while going up big hills or carrying heavy loads will still burn up controllers or tear up drivetrains, mainly because they stop using the gears as intended. you want to keep those motor RPMs high so it doesn't overheat and make sure you're in the right gear for the task at hand to protect your cassette/chain.
